The amount of change that has happened to me and my world view over my lifetime is incredible. But NEVER have I had such a jam-packed-change-session as when i decided to get a post-secondary education. I have come from a majorly socialist mentality, to a major gravitation to capitalist mentality and then back again. There are merits and values to both and both can be considered beneficial and justified. Our human conundrum is that sometimes two equally important values come into conflict when you try to apply them to real life. The hardest would be the combination of Equality (socialist) and Freedom (capitalist). Can not have one without sacrificing some of the other.
I listened to a you tube video that suggested that the best state of mind to be in is a state of confusion. This was justified by saying that when a previously set frame of mind is being challenged or has been destroyed, your mind goes into a state of disorientation or confusion. This is a signal that you are opening your mind to new ideas. The debasing of your current mind set is true open mindedness. It's not open mindedness when you are constantly hearing the same types information when it can only reinforce your current state of thinking. Education leaves you in a perpetual state of confusion!
The trouble with working towards a career, is that sometimes you have no idea what the actual career will be like to work in. So I have just applied to work for a international accounting firm known as "BDO Canada LLP". What I applied for is a four month internship that allows me to experience the accounting profession first hand at the height of the tax return season. I have been swamped with homework for a year straight now and I, strangely, am craving a job, and a paycheque (weird).I am excited none the less! Becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) is as difficult as becoming a doctor, and I am well on my way to achieving this goal. Can accounting be a satisfying and challenging career? We shall see...
Here's to the everchanging and sometimes muddy road of life.
J.

Its true. You just dont know where this road will take you, but your going somewhere. I have a friend who has 2 teaching degrees, and she works retail with me. Its crazy. But someplace down the road those degrees will make perfect sense. Who knows where accounting will take you? Who knows what it will be like to have a career? (Tell me about it when you find out, haha!) Hopefully you will attain a financial prosperity that will help set you free to just keep following this windy path of life with a n adventurous spirit. Enjoy!
