I want a Dog!

I admit it.  I want a DOG!!  Badly.  I want that fun loving companionship the always eager attitude and the challenge of keeping it in balance.
It all started when I began watching the Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, a dog psychologist from Mexico.  He has an amazing insight into how to control Dog behavior and always tries to explain it so everyone can understand it.  Ive watch at least 75 episodes and listen to one of his books (audio) twice.  I've practiced his techniques on other people's dogs secretely and have been successful in making normally unruly dogs into perfect companions.  Until the other owners show up (then they go back to unruly).  I like it.

When will I get a Dog?  Probably not for years, but I still can't wait.  There are so many different kinds of Dogs I want:

1. Border Collie

I originally want these because they are so intelligent.  The are smart enough to herd sheep and can be trained to follow commands from a mile away. The problem is they also have high energy and can be neurotic if you don't take care of them.  I'm not sure what I will be like so I can't commit to a high maintenance dog, though I still really want one.

2. Retriever
The classic.  I thought that these dogs' loving demeanor would be enough.  Though I think its too cliche for me.  We'll see.

3. Lab

Another Classic.  Not too cliche but although a little boring to me.  Though it would be a solid companion...  I like dogs, and labs are a well rounded dog at about the size I want.

4. Pitt Bull
The Dog Whisperer put me on to these ones. They can be scary looking but Cesar has made me realize it's not the BREED that makes a dog mean - its the owner.  Pit bulls can be REALLY cute too.  If I had a cute big Pitt, I would be happy.  They like to work, so I could put I backpack on it when we go hiking and it can carry it's own food and water and poo.

Hopefully one day... :)
