This video was inspired by an idea I received from my Micro Economics textbook. It is the idea of how good intentioned, honest, rational people can destroy land and resources given no rules, boundaries or regulations. Our oceans are in a similar category of Common Resources and because the oceans are 'no mans land' individual users will take as much as they can to give them selves a better livelihood. They do this knowing that they are adding to a huge problem... They benefit while the rest of the world is handed the bill.
The solution lies in regulation, and international agreements to enforce those regulations. I don't think that a grass roots effort to open people's minds will help, nor do I think single nations making a change will solve the problem on their own.

Originally or National Parks were considered "Commons". Luckily the government was informed enough to regulate their use. And now quotas and other regulatory systems has preserved them to a reasonable state. I couldn't imagine what it would look like if they hadn't! Another example of the destruction of common land would be the rain forests of south america. No regulation, no rules, and the rain forests are disappearing.
